Is Honey Good for My Skin?

Is Honey Good for My Skin?

Discover how the world's oldest beauty product helps our skin.

In Valencia, Spain, the cave paintings of a honey hunter in the Cuevas de la Araña are proof that people already knew about and used honey around 10,000 to 6,000 BC. In the cosmetics industry, the liquid gold is used in many forms. We at Susanne Kaufmann focus on the antibacterial, soothing, moisturising, and healing properties of honey in selected products. In addition, we use beeswax as a rich, nourishing fat and important natural texturizer. We are particularly pleased that our cosmetics producer Ingo Metzler owns his own bee farm and that we will also be able to locally source this valuable ingredient in the near future.

Versatile. A spoonful of honey is good for the throat and the soul. Grandma’s pharmacy never lacks liquid gold – neither do some of our cosmetic products. This is because the minerals and trace elements contained in honey are good for the skin – on both the inside and the outside. In addition to vitamin C, honey also contains vitamins B1, B2, and B6, which ensure radiant skin and healthy hair. Honey also has the ability to bind moisture, while the pantothenic acid in honey supports skin renewal. These diverse properties are what make honey so interesting for the cosmetics industry.

Natural. Honey is not the only product of industrious bees that works as a miracle elixir. Royal jelly, the bee milk that is only fed to the queen, contains amino acids, lipids, and proteins, which especially support collagen and elastin formation. It also promotes blood circulation and stimulates the cell cycle. Royal jelly is mostly found in antiaging products. Its properties help to smooth small wrinkles and to give the skin a fresh complexion.

Soothing. Another very effective bee product is propolis. Bees produce this putty to seal the hive, protecting it from infection and fungi. This exact antibacterial and antibiotic effect also protects humans. For example, it can soothe acne-plagued skin and relieve inflammation on the skin’s surface. Propolis is available in the form of powders, ointments, and tinctures.

Among others we use honey in our Body Butter and in our Moisturising Mask. A complex of beeswax and jojoba oil in our Lip Balm provides for soft, moisturised lips. In our Nourishing Rich Cream, beeswax offers intensive, rich care and ensures supple skin. It is particularly suitable for protection in the cold season.
