What is an Enzyme?

An enzyme is a protein that accelerates chemical reactions in the body and maintains the body's natural functions such as respiration, digestion, and nerve function – as well as supporting overall skin health. Enzymes are naturally derived from fruits, including apples, kiwi, and papaya, as featured in our Enzyme Exfoliator.

What Does the Enzyme Peel Do?

The natural enzymes work together to naturally resurface the skin by peeling away the top layer. Seeping into your pores, this process gently digests dead skin cells, clears away pores and removes layers of toxic build-up.

Enzyme Exfoliators vs. Chemical & Manual Exfoliators

All exfoliators serve the same purpose – leaving skin radiant and fresher by removing dead skin and encouraging cell turnover.

A manual exfoliator involves a granular scrub to physically buff away build-up, while chemical exfoliators use an acid-based formula, such as AHAs and BHAs, to dissolve dead skin cells. These types of exfoliants are known to be effective and produce great results but can irritate due to their harsher and sometimes abrasive formulations.

Naturally milder and without risk of redness or downtime, an enzyme-based peel or exfoliator is a better option for sensitive or dry skin. While not providing quite as deep of an exfoliation, the peel is still effective in achieving soft, glowing skin.

The Benefits of an Enzyme Peel

We designed our Enzyme Exfoliator to offer a gentle yet purposeful facial treatment. Showcasing a variety of fruit extracts, alongside powerhouse ingredients of ectoin and vitamin C, this peel provides a host of benefits for your skin:

  • Removing dead skin cells and lifting away impurities for beautifully cleansed skin – as agreed by our community:"Leaves your skin feeling clean and smooth. A gentle but effective amount of exfoliation – this product makes a difference." – Judy S, customer, 2023
  • Protecting against harmful environmental influences and increasing the skin's capacity to restore moisture, creating a well-hydrated look.
  • Promoting natural collagen production in the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, revealing a plumper, smoother appearance.
  • Promoting skin elasticity levels for firmer, more toned-looking skin.
  • Banishing dullness and encouraging the skin's natural glow for an illuminated appearance.
  • Clarifying the complexion without irritation – as proved in clinical trials by 91%.

How Often Should I Use an Enzyme Peel?

Despite its gentle formulation, everyday use is not advised for a fruit enzyme peel. However, you can use it frequently within your skincare routine. For optimal results, use once or twice weekly, following cleansing. To use, first apply a thin layer over the face. Then, relax with its beautifully fruity aroma for 15 minutes and rinse away using lukewarm water. Do note that, unlike some exfoliators, no physical 'scrubbing' is required when using.

Can I use a Mask with a Peel?

Yes, you can – and we encourage you to use a mask with a peel as part of your weekly skincare routine. One of Susanne's favourite rituals, she shares her tips to help maximise the benefits of using an exfoliator with a mask:

"I believe a peel is perfect for prepping the skin for nourishing serums and masks, as it increases the absorption and efficacy of your follow-on skincare. I love to use the Enzyme Exfoliator before a face mask. Depending on my skin’s needs, I choose between our Moisturising Mask for a hydrating boost, the refreshing Boosting Liquid Mask or the rejuvenating Power Mask."
